About the Department
The department of Mechanical Engineering started its successful journey in the year 1985. The department is recognized as a research centre approved by Anna University in the year 2007 and is supplemented by the state of the art well – equipped laboratories, reputed research supervisors and dedicated faculty members. More than sixty percentage of the faculty members are doctorates and the department has the privilege of housing research cells, namely.
These research cells are used extensively for research and consultancy projects. The department has completed sponsored research projects for a worth of more than 150 lakhs and consultancy projects for more than 75 lakhs. The department has established a centre of excellence in Additive and Computer Integrated Manufacturing, which houses the facilities such as digital manufacturing, Robotics and HMI based Automation and 3D printers. Our faculty members actively engage in research activities and consistently publish papers in national and International journal. The department has published more than 600 papers in peer reviewed journals.
The department regularly organizes training programs / FDP for the faculty members to expose them to the emerging thrust areas. Every year faculty members and supporting staff members are permitted to undergo training in leading industries to equip themselves with the industry practices. Guest lectures from the leading industrial experts and academicians, industrial visits and Internships are regularly arranged for the students to complement their curriculum. Faculty members and students are sponsored to present their research papers within India and abroad.
Programs offered
The department offers two undergraduate programs and one post graduate program which are approved by All Indian Council for Technical Education, New Delhi and Anna University Chennai. The department of Mechanical Engineering is recognized as a Research centre by Anna University to guide full time / part time research scholars.
The B.E. Mechanical Engineering program offered by the department is continuously accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) since 1998
