Activities of Welding Research Cell
- Five Inverter-Based MMAW Portable Welding Machines have been added to cater to the needs of undergraduate (UG) students, postgraduate (PG) students, and PhD scholars.
- A book chapter titled "Studies on Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing of Shape Memory Alloys" has been published in the book "Mechanical Properties and Characterization of Additively Manufactured Materials" with ISBN: 9781003430186 (eBook) on pages 271-286.
- A research article titled "Influence of Input Parameters on the Shape of Weld Bead in Cladding on 316L Stainless Steel Using the Taguchi Method" has been published in the "Journal of Materials Open Research" by Taylor and Francis.
- An intramural fund of Rs 10,000 has been granted for the UG project proposal titled "Prediction of Tensile Strength of Wire Additive Manufactured Nickel Alloy Components by Adaptive Neuro Inference Systems (ANFIS) and Artificial Neural Network (ANN)."
- A Tungsten Inert Gas welding Machine (MagicWave 230i Gas Cooled version- AC/DC) has been added to the Welding Research Cell.
- Safety fencing for Robotic Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing has been commissioned.
- Consultancy work in the area of WAAM for IIT Delhi has been completed.
- Fume Extraction Systems for Robotic Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing have been installed.
- An intramural research grant of Rs 1,00,000 has been received for the ongoing project titled "Characterization of Cold Metal Transfer-based Wire and Arc Additive Manufactured Nickel-Titanium Alloy."
- A revenue of Rs 63,664 has been generated through consultancy works.
- A UG project titled "Evaluation of Mechanical Properties of Robotic Wire Arc Additive Manufactured (WAAM) Nickel Alloys Using the Cold Metal Transfer (CMT) Process" has been completed.
- A Yaskawa Robot AR1440, controllers, and a welding table have been procured and synchronized with a Cold Metal Transfer Welding Machine.
- A full-fledged Robotic Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing setup has been established in the Welding Research Cell.
- A revenue of Rs 81,625 has been generated through consultancy work.
- A UG project titled "Study on the New Development of Welding Process for Ship Hull Plates" has been completed.
- Rs 17,29,412 has been sanctioned by AICTE under the Research Promotion Scheme for the ongoing project titled "Mechanical Property Evaluation of Nickel-Based Alloys Fabricated Using Wire-and-Arc Additive Manufacturing and Optimization of WAAM Process Parameters."
- A revenue of Rs 39,525 has been generated through consultancy works.
- A research article titled "Effect of Parameters on SS304 Beads Deposited by Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing" was published in the journal "MATERIALS AND MANUFACTURING PROCESSES" (Taylor and Francis) in the year 2020.
- A webinar series on "Cold Metal Transfer Welding and Its Allied Processes" was organized from July 31st to August 2nd, 2020.
- A UG project titled "Wire + Arc Additive Manufacturing using Aluminum vs. Traditional Machining from Solid: A Comparison and A Study on Mechanical Properties" has been completed.
- A Hands-on Training on Basic Fusion Welding Practices was held on April 10th and 11th, 2019, at the Welding Research Cell, SVCE.
- A revenue of Rs 17,300 has been generated through consultancy work.
- A UG project titled "Optimization of Process Parameters of Laser Textured AZ 313 Magnesium Alloy Joints Made by Pulsed MIG Welding Using Response Surface Methodology" has been completed.
- An Inverted Metallurgical Microscope with image analysis software has been procured.
- A Computerized Micro Hardness Tester (MHT-1000) with a 5MP Camera and 1-micron accuracy hardness analysis software has been procured.
- A revenue of Rs 47,700 has been generated through consultancy work.
- A UG project titled "Optimization of Process Parameters of Used Textured Marine Grade Magnesium Alloys Using Response Surface Methodology" has been completed.
- A seminar grant of Rs 1,00,000 has been received from AICTE to conduct a seminar on "CHALLENGES AND RECENT TRENDS IN WELDING OF NON-FERROUS ALLOYS."
- A two-day national seminar on challenges and recent trends in welding of non-ferrous alloys was conducted on November 24th and 25th, 2017.
- Published a paper titled " Transient Dynamic Analysis and Simulation of Cold Metal Transfer Welding of AZ31B Magnesium Alloy" in the National conference on Product design, Virtual Prototyping and manufacturing on 2017.
- Received SVCE's intramural funding worth Rs. 10,000 for the project titled "Feasibility study for replacement of Marine Grade aluminum with magnesium alloys and optimization of process parameters of laser textured marine grade magnesium alloys using response surface methodology "
- A revenue of Rs 33,000 has been generated through consultancy work.

- A UG project titled "Optimisation of cold metal transfer spot welding process parameters to attain maximum tensile strength in AI6061 aluminium alloy sheet" has been completed.
- Completed a funded project titled as "Artificial neural network modeling of Pulsed metal gas welding of magnesium alloy plates" worth of 18 lakhs from All India Council for Technical Education, Govt. of India in the year 2016.
- Mr.V.Gurusamy wrote a chapter, Material Joining Process of Non-Ferrous Metals, in the book titled "Manufacturing Engineering: New Research",published by NOVA, USA with ISBN: 978-1-63463-378-9.
- An automated welding table has been designed and developed by our students
- Welding Research Cell, SVCE signed MoU with M/S ADOR Welding Limited on 12/01/2015.
- A UG project titled "Optimization of cold metal transfer welding process parameters to attain maximum tensile strength in AZ31B magnesium alloy plates" has been completed.
- Organized one day workshop on "Advances in Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding Process" on 18 February 2014.
- A UG project titled" "The development of newer welding processes for ship hull construction" has been completed.
- Cold Metal Transfer MIG welding Machine worth 16.10 lakhs has been purchased for the welding research cell.
- Pulsed MIG welding machine worth 6.70 lakh was purchased for the welding research cell.
- Rs 18.00 Lakhs has been sanctioned for the proposal "ANN modelling of Pulsed Inert Gas (P-MIG) Welding of Magnesium Alloy Joints" under the AICTE Research Promotion Scheme.
