Inauguration and Orientation
Date: 04th May 2023.
On the inauguration day of the Standards Club in SVCE, Dr A. Baskar, Retired Deputy Director, of BIS, graced the event as the Chief Guest. He explained the club's significance and BIS Care App features. Dr K.R. Santha, the Vice-Principal, unveiled the club logo. Badges were issued to members by Dr A. Baskar and Dr S. Gopinath, Mentor. An engaging orientation session by Dr Baskar was followed by a quiz event on BIS-related topics. The top three winners received cash prizes, inspiring all attendees to embrace the club's mission of promoting standardization and quality.
Industrial Visit
Date: 16th May 2023.
An industrial visit to Asahi India Glass Ltd. was organised by the Bureau of Indian Standards. A group of 25 members of the standards club, was accompanied by faculty co-ordinator Mr. K. Ram Prasad, standards club. This Plant is focused on the manufacture and supply of sheet metal stampings, and pressed and fabricated components for automobile, tractor, and allied industries. The outcome of the visit was, the technology and the equipment used for the manufacture of automotive glass was made familiar, and various process involved in the production, and testing of glass and its components were explained.
Essay Writing Competition
Date: 22nd May 2023.
The Standards Club of Service conducted an essay writing competition for its members. The faculty co-ordinator Mr. K. Ram Prasad commenced the event along with 20 members of the club. The topic given is "Plain Copy Paper". The standards were released by BIS for a paper that was explained by the members of the club in the essay. Among the best writers who received the awards. The prize amounts are 1000, 750 and 500 for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd respectively.
Manak Manthan
Date: 25th may 2023
Manak means "Standards" and Manthan means "Place where we gather and launch the Standards". The session started with the introduction of BIS activities and its history. After the history of BIS, then the session starts regarding "IS 17953:2023" entitled 'uPVC profiles for windows and doors specification. They explained the profile, geometry, and material of uPVC. After the manufacturing testing methods were also discussed like determination of appearance, dimensions, profile mass, and thickness.
Manak Manthan
Date: 28th June 2023.
As we discussed early for every Manak Manthan, the meeting starts with the history of BIS. This meeting is for regarding Electric Vehicle, the standards have been set for how to charge the vehicle. So, this is the discussion about battery management, charging methods, TN EV Policies, how to consume electricity by using renewable resources and efficient usage of EVs.
